“Never Alone”Poughkeepsie Begins Debra Anastasia
Our journey started with Poughkeepsie, then Return to Poughkeepsie and Saving Poughkeepsie, but Debra Anastasia takes us to the beginning where it all started.
In Poughkeepsie Begins you get a picture of what three brothers, maybe not by blood but by circumstance go through in the foster care system. Beckett, Blake and Cole were all dealt crappy hands in life and the one’s they should be cherished by instead abused and mistreated them at very young ages. Put into the Foster Care system these three beautiful children fell under the same roof and forged a bond so incredibly strong and so protective of each other it was simply amazing. Their struggles, their deep seated fears, their violent hatred, and their survival to want for naught and be respected and just simply fit in somewhere and even the first love.
Beckett seems to be the parent of the group and shoulders most of the responsibility on making sure his brother’s get the respect and want for nothing. At such a young age he has life altering decisions to make and which crossroad to take. One of power, money and respect and lawlessness or one for his future. You can tell he’s torn even though he says his brothers will always come first. He wants the best for his brothers. For the first time to actual feel an emotion of love for other than his brothers is a big deal. His Pink Princess did not belong in a life like his no matter how he felt.
Before the tats (by the way I want that tat), before the train station, before the separation, before the everything. This is the beginning and it will rip your heart out in a brutal but loving way. This series is so worth a multiple read. I can’t seem to get enough of Beckett, Blake and Cole. Can there be such a thing as a “Good” “Bad Boy” because that’s what Beckett is. From his charm to his enormous heart. 5* and a box of tissues for the ugly cry’s for sure.

Poughkeepsie Begins The Poughkeepsie Brotherhood Series Book 4 edition by Debra Anastasia Romance eBooks Reviews
"For a few heartbeats, three teenaged boys raged at their childhood. They hollered at fate. They screamed out of pure need. It was the sound of Peter Pan ... dying, the ghost of dreams that would never be..."
Hauntingly beautiful. Stunning. Breath-taking. Terrifying. Erotic. Tragic. A perfect beginning - or ending. If you haven't read the Poughkeepsie series, start now and don't stop until you've read every last word. You can thank me later.
The wonderful thing about Poughkeepsie Begins is that no matter whether you read it first or last in the series - or even if you read it as a standalone and go no further, it is so powerful that it will stay with you forever. If you read it last - you'll want to go back and read the rest of the series again, because it will put so many things in a new context. If you read it first, or as a standalone, you'll be so addicted you'll have no choice but to see what happens to this brotherhood - three young men, three lost souls, coming together as brothers - helping each other find their place in the world after a lifetime of staggering abuse and cruelty. The odds are stacked against them, and their choices are tragically limited by their circumstances. They are forced to do unspeakable, unthinkable things to survive, desperate not to let their past define their future.
Beckett is a defiant, irreverent, reckless, drop-dead sexy anti-hero. Clearly the leader of the brotherhood, his dedication to the other two members of the trio leads him to take deadly risks and sacrifice his own dreams of redemption in order to save them all. His devotion is put to the test when he falls in love with the girl of his dreams - a girl he knows is 'too good' for him - a girl that makes him question all of his beliefs about who he is and who he can be. Candy - a brave heroine in her own right - believes in him, loves him, and is willing to do anything to save him from himself. Their struggle is poignant - often funny, ultimately painful, but always full of the deepest kind of desire. Their chemistry is off the charts - bringing heat and heart to the story in more ways than one.
Blake is quiet, reclusive, a dreamer - a musician. He cannot bear the light of day - uses the darkness to escape his pain and fear. But he is far from weak - there is great strength in his lost soul. Ironically, he often brings the light they all need when they need it the most.
Cole has been taken to the edge of insanity by the trauma of his early childhood, at the hands of a mother capable of the worst form of abuse. He is the most vulnerable of the three, and the most broken. When all hope is gone, he escapes by losing himself, disembodying his pain and fear, giving in and climbing into the darkness. It's frightening to witness. But with Blake and Beckett by his side, Cole is so much more than the tragedy of his past. He is a partner, a warrior for the two innocent little girls caught up in their world - in need of love and protection. Despite his past and his tenuous hold on the present, Cole is a remarkable young man and part of what makes this such a compelling brotherhood.
The reckless one. The quiet one. The broken one. An unbreakable bond.
Never alone.
You will love each one, feel their desperate need for each other, and experience the power of their brotherhood. Even when you know that their innocent childhood dreams may always be just beyond their grasp, even when they go so far there is no turning back, you will find yourself hoping for the impossible - that they will be fully healed of the pain they've suffered at the hands of others. That they will find love, acceptance, and redemption - and that they don't die trying. In the end - which I won't reveal - Poughkeepsie changes you. It changes your concept of justice in a cruel, dark world. It changes your concept of family. Hopefully, it changes the assumptions you make, the stereotypes you write off as "lost causes." It pulls no punches, makes no apologies. It's a gritty story that you NEED to read about three tragic souls you need to understand.
Debra Anastasia is an enormously talented author with an amazing range. Whether tragedy or comedy, she writes with a deep and abiding passion for her characters and their stories that you can feel. Whether haunting or hilarious, her characters are utterly unforgettable.
Poughkeepsie Begins will keep you on the edge of your seat. It will break your heart, but it will also feed your soul. Once you take this trip to Poughkeepsie, you'll never really leave.
“Never Alone”
